Navigating My IT Degree at WGU: The Journey Thus Far

January has been a whirlwind of learning and growth as I dive deeper into my IT studies at Western Governors University (WGU). Embarking on this journey with a full course load of 20 competency units, I’ve embraced the challenge with open arms and an eager mind.

My first conquest was the ‘Intro to IT (D322)’ course. Interestingly, due to changes in the program, some of my previous transfer credits were no longer applicable. But that didn’t deter me. Utilizing the course planning tool, I quickly identified areas needing a brush-up. A thorough review of the project and programming sections, aided immensely by resources like pre-recorded sessions and the insightful WGU IT Podcast, helped me grasp the essentials swiftly. The result? Passing the Objective Assessment on January 8th, marking a victorious start to my term.

Riding this wave of success, I dove into ‘Legal Issues in Information Security – C841’. Again, the course planning tool was instrumental in pinpointing knowledge gaps. Delving into the textbook and additional materials provided by the instructor, I tackled the written performance assessments with zeal. The first task delved into legal challenges and unethical business practices presented in a case study. The second focused on the ethical dimensions, proposing strategies to avert legal pitfalls through a SATE (Security Awareness Training & Education) program. By January 18th, I had successfully completed this course, a testament to my dedication and hard work.

Currently, I’m immersing myself in ‘Emerging Technologies in Cybersecurity – C844’, applying the same tried-and-true techniques of my two previous classes. Although I hit a brief period of low motivation, I’m getting back on track, more determined than ever.

This journey at WGU is not just about earning a degree; it’s about personal growth, embracing challenges, and learning in a way that resonates with my style. The flexibility of online learning, combined with the richness of resources like the Scripting & Programming Podcast Episode, makes this journey unique and fulfilling.

I’m eager to see where this path takes me and to share my experiences with you. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to navigate the fascinating world of IT and cybersecurity!
